Age of Empires 4 - Preview
There is very little known about Age of Empires 4. If you know more than we do, please send us an email to info,at,age-of-empires4,com.
This picture is taken from the Age of Empires 3 artbook. According to it, the setting of
Age of Empires 4 will be the present or a time near the present such as World War I.
Of course that is no proof, but it would still make sense for AoE 4 to follow the timeline.
We have made some calculations to try and figure out when Age of Empires 4 might take place.
The following graph shows the Age of Empires games in order of release date. For every release we have plotted the age (A.D.) in which they are set.
We might expect AoE4 to take place around 2000 A.C.

Some AoE fans seem to like the idea of a successor in the near present or even the future. Others are terrified
that the Age of Empires series will end as an imitation of Rise of Nations or Empire Earth.
Many people seem to forget one particular thing: The game's name. Age of Empires is the era of imperian rule.
You might argue that we now have "modern" empires, such as the U.S., the E.U. or China. But can we still speak of
an age of empires?
For this reason, a future AoE might well be set during one of the main ages of empires. Some of which might be:
- Achaemenid Empire
- Roman Empire
- Maurya Empire
- Arab Empire
- Mongol Empire
- Russian Empire
- Ottoman Empire
- Empire of the Great Qing
We might even consider the idea that there will be an Age of Fantasy, since nobody can deny the current
popularity of fantasy.
